This 95-year-old public bath is now renovated to be a cozy cafe.
The public bath Kaisaiyu had been loved by the generations of Iriya people. Although the local wanted them to stay, they had to close their business. However, the last owner wanted to keep the building, for it would mean a lot to the locals. The new owner renovated it into the cafe rébon Kaisaiyu to continue the legacy of the building. The combination of public bath style painting of grand Mt. Fuji and modern-style cafe make a unique atmosphere. In addition to the locals, they also get many tourists from overseas. The strangers can chat and connect here. The sense of community is not changed at all from the time when it was a public bath.
The building was built on 1928 and it means so much to the locals.
When you get in, you will be welcomed by the shoe lockers from the time it was a public bath. You are asked to put your shoes here before going in.
The coffee beans are roasted in-house with the 35-year-old roaster from a closed cafe.
You can have some coffee while enjoying the painting of the Mt. Fuji. shined by the plenty of sunlight coming in from the high ceiling.
Many people order the set of ice cream and the coffee. The ice creams are made from carefully picked ingredients and the coffee is specifically chosen to go with them (¥980). What's shown here are blueberry ice cream and Yunnan coffee.
